Monday June 7 - Hey everyone, today are starting section 12.3 and we'll be learning about the third type of tessellation. This type of tessellation is formed by using ROTATIONS.

Please refer to the section 12.3 NOTES in the gr. 9 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

For extra support please read and review pages 457 - 459 in your Mathlinks textbooks, and/or use the notes in the grade 8 Math Shell in D2L.

Tuesday June 8 - Hey everyone, today are starting section 12.4 and we'll be looking at M.C Esher style tessellations.

Please refer to the section 12.4 NOTES in the gr. 9 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

For extra support please read and review pages 461 - 463 in your Mathlinks textbooks, and/or use the notes in the grade 8 Math Shell in D2L.

Today's assignment is on Pg 466 (#1 - 8)

Thursday June 10 - Hey everyone, today we are using class time to review. Therefore, we are continuing our work on the Chapter 12 Review.

Moreover, today we are introducing the Tessellation PROJECT. Below is a link to an INSTRUCTION Booklet on how to create your own unique tessellation.

Instructions on how to create a tessellation

Today's activity is on Pg 467 (#9 - 15)

*You may also want to reference pages 6-9 in the section 12.4 notes on examples of how to make a tessellation. In addition to this you may want to research some youtube videos.

Friday June 11 Hey everyone, today we are working on the Chapter 12 Practice Test.

Today's activity is on Pg 468 (#1 - 10) and is due on Monday. The solutions to the Chapter 12 Practice Test is below:

Solutions to the Ch. 12 Practice Test: #1) D, #2) D, #3)D, #4)B, #5)B, #6) Yes, you can tessellate the plane with 1 octagon and 2 squares by using translations. #7)Yes, you can tessellate the plane with this triangle by using reflections and translations. #8)1 single quadrilateral with a rotation of 120degrees used to create the pattern. #9)No, the F shape will not tessellate the plane as it leaves gaps. #10)To create the tessellation you can use 1 red square and 4 yellow pentagons.

A reminder that your Chapter 12 UNIT TEST is on Monday June 14. All the best, and have a great weekend! 😀

Grade 9

Monday June 7 - Hey everyone, today we are using grid paper and reflections to create images with symmetry. Moreover, we'll be looking at transforming points to create a shape and then finding its AREA. Below is a cool website to be creative and make symmetrical images by using reflections and/or rotations.

Please refer to the section 1.1 NOTES in the gr. 9 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.
