March 8 - March 12, 2021

Below is the Math agenda for the week of Monday March 8 - Friday March 12 for my Grade 8 & 9 classes:

Grade 8

Monday March 8 - Hey everyone, today we will are looking at wrapping up Section 3.2 and we'll be looking at the fact that a right triangle will meet the following criteria:  "the sum of the areas of the squares attached to the legs of the triangle is equal to the area of the square attached to the hypotenuse."

Please refer to the section 3.2 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 92 (#7 - 21). This activity is due on Wednesday.

Tuesday March 9 - Hey everyone, today we are starting section 3.3 and we are looking at how to estimate the square root of a non-perfect square using mental math (ie: without a calculator). Moreover, we will also look at application questions pertaining to this idea.

Please refer to the section 3.3 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 98 (#1,3,4,5)

Wednesday March 10 - Hey everyone, today we learned how to find a number such that its square root is in between two other whole numbers. Moreover, we learned how to use our square root button and approximate the square root of non-perfect squares.

Please refer to the section 3.3 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 99 (#6-18)

Thursday March 11 -  Hi guys, today we will be starting section 3.4, and we are looking at how to use/apply the Pythagorean Theorem to find the length of the hypotenuse in a right triangle. We looked at all of the algebraic steps involved in solving this equation.

Please refer to the section 3.4 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

The activity is on Pg 101 (#1-3), this activity should be completed in class.

Moreover, a reminder to study and prepare for the Chapter 3 QUIZ that is on Monday March 15. The quiz is on sections 3.1-3.3. All the best studying!

Friday March 12 Hi everyone, today we there is no school as it is a PD- Day.

I hope you all have a great long weekend!

Grade 9

Monday March 8 - Hi everyone, today we are working on the section 11.2 BOOKLET.

Today's activity is (#6-9) in the section 11.2 Booklet

Tuesday March 9 - Hey everyone, today we are starting the section 11.3 Booklet and looking at Understanding, calculating Probability and differentiating between theoretical, experimental and subjective probability.

Today's activity is (#1 - 5) in the 11.3 Booklet

Wednesday March 10 - Hey everyone, today we are writing the Chapter 11 QUIZ. Which will include information and concepts from the section 11.1 and 11.2 Booklets. All the best!!

Thursday March 11 - Hey everyone, today we are working on the section 11.3 Booklet, and we're looking at calculating the mean, median and mode.

Today's activity is (#6 - 10) in the 11.3 Booklet

Moreover, these are the correct answers to #12 (d, e) and #13.

#12d) 311/1535 = 0.20, 12e) People are answering the survey questions honestly.

#13a) The experimental probabilities: P(1) = 0.1625, P(2) = 0.1825, P(3) = 0.15, P(4) = 0.18, P(5) = 0.2025, P(6) = 0.1225. #13b) experimental P(even) = 0.485, #13c) The theoretical probabilities: P(1) = 0.16, P(2) = 0.16, P(3) = 0.16, P(4) = 0.16, P(5) = 0.16, P(6) = 0.16. #13d) theoretical P(even) = 0.5. #13e) Theoretical and Experimental probabilities are different, however the more times you conduct the experiment the closer the values will get to the theoretical. #13f) The experimental probability is 0.485 compared to the theoretical probability of 0.5, the difference could be attributed to the die possibly being lopsided, however, the more times you conduct the experiment the closer the value will try to get to the theoretical value.

Friday March 12 - Hi everyone, today we there is no school as it is a PD- Day.

I hope you all have a great long weekend!
