March 1 - March 5, 2021

Below is the Math agenda for the week of Monday March 1 - Friday March 5 for my Grade 8 & 9 classes:

Grade 8

Monday March 1 - Hey everyone, today we will be looking at 2 ways to determine if a number is a square number.

Method 1: by modelling it with tiles, and Method 2: the idea of prime factorization.

Also, we will be looking at finding the prime factors of a number by using a prime factor tree.

Please refer to the section 3.1 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 85 (#5-8)

Tuesday March 2 - Hey everyone, today are looking at how to determine if a number is a perfect square by using prime factorization. "You will see that you must have an EVEN number of prime factors in order to be a perfect square."

Please refer to the section 3.1 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 85 (#1,2, 9-16)

Wednesday March 3 - Hey everyone, today we wrapped up section 3.1 and looked at SQUARING, and its opposite which is taking the SQUARE ROOT. Moreover, we looked at applying this concepts visually with squaring --> finding the area, and taking the square root --> finding the side length

Please refer to the section 3.1 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 86 (#17-22,24,25)

Thursday March 4 -  Hi guys, today we will be starting section 3.2, and inquiring and doing a group activity and exploring the properties of triangles by using squares.

The activity is on Pg 88 (#1-7). Please wrap this up at home if you didn't finish it in class.

Friday March 5 - Hi everyone, today we went over the inquiry activity from yesterday to gain a deeper understanding as to how do three squares attached at the corners relate to the triangle in the centre.

Today's activity is on Pg 91 (#1-6)

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Grade 9

Monday March 1 - Hi everyone, today we are starting Chapter 11 (Data Analysis). We will be looking at populations vs samples. Moreover, we will be looking at the 4 sampling methods.

Today we are working on the section 11.1 BOOKLET and looking at the 7 influencing factors that affect sampling.

Today's activity is (#1-3) in the section 11.1 Booklet

Tuesday March 2 - Hey everyone, today we are working in the section 11.1 Booklet and looking at applying how influencing factors will affect sampling.

Today's activity is (#4-7) in the 11.1 Booklet

Wednesday March 3- Hey everyone, today we are wrapping up the section 11.1 Booklet, and looking at how influencing factors affect sampling. Moreover, we are looking at how to rewrite sampling questions that were being affected by one of the 7 influencing factors.

Today's activity is (#8-10) in the 11.1 Booklet

Thursday March 4 - Hi guys, today we are starting section 11.2 and we'll be looking at how to recognize when a population vs a sample is being used.

Today's activity is (#1-3) in the Section 11.2 notes and Booklet. There is an error in the wording in #2 it should read, "In statistics a SAMPLE means."

Friday March 5 - Hi everyone, today we are working on section 11.2 and we'll be looking at how to recognize when a population vs a sample is used within specific examples.

Today's activity is (#4-5) in the Section 11.2 notes and question Booklet.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
