February 1 - February 5, 2021

Below is the Math agenda for the week of Monday February 1 - Friday February 5 for my Grade 8 & 9 classes:

Grade 8

Monday February 1 - Hey everyone, today we are using class time to continue working on solving one-step equations.

Today's activity is on Pg 378 (#19 - 28)

Tuesday February 2 - Hey everyone, today we are starting section 10.2 and we're looking at understanding how to solve 2-step equations of the form ax + b = c by using a model. The model we will be using is Algebra tiles. They are a good way of visualizing the steps (manipulation) on both sides of the equation when they are solved.

Today's activity is on Pg 384 (#1-6)

Please refer to the section 10.2 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Wednesday February 3 - Hey guys, today we are looking at solving 2-step equations of the form ax + b = c by using Algebra. Remember:

When solving a 2-step equation:

Isolate the variable, by performing the opposite operation to both sides of the equation. Remembering to:

1st: Perform the adding/subtracting

2nd: Perform the multiplying/dividing

Please refer to the section 10.2 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details and for review.

Today's activity is on Pg 385 (#7-10)

Thursday February 4 - Hey everyone, today we are wrapping up section 10.2. We are looking using class time as a work-period to complete the following:

Please refer to the section 10.2 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details.

Today's activity is on Pg 386 (#11 - 17,19)

Friday February 5 - Hi everyone, today there we are starting section 10.3 and we're looking at understanding how to solve 2-step equations that are of the form x/a + b = c by using a model. The model that we will be using is the Algebra tiles. They are a good way of visualizing the steps (manipulation) on both sides of the equation when they are solved. You are able to see that we undo the adding/subtracting first, then we have to undo the multiplying/dividing.

Please refer to the section 10.3 NOTES in the gr. 8 notes tab on my Blog for details.

Today's activity is on Pg 391 (#3-7)

I hope you all have a great weekend! 😀

Grade 9

Monday February 1 - Hey everyone, today we are writing the Chapter 9 UNIT TEST. All the best!

Tuesday February 2- Hey everyone, today we are starting a new unit, Chapter 6 LINEAR RELATIONS. We will be covering the Cartesian Plane in detail, all of its parts and plotting and defining ordered pairs.

Today's activity is the: Chapter 6 Get Ready Worksheet

Please refer to the Section 6.1 NOTES in the grade 9 notes section on my Blog.

Wednesday February 3 - Hey everyone, today are using class time to continue to explore section 6.1 by completing the:

Today's activity is on Pg 211 (#1 - 6)

Thursday February 4 - Hey everyone, today we are completing the formal notes on Section 6.1, and we're looking at what is a linear relation and a linear equation. Moreover, we'll be looking at developing the equation from a picture (diagram) or a table of values.

-A linear relation is a pattern made by two sets of numbers that results as a straight line when graphed.

-A linear equation is an equation whose graph is a straight line.

Today's activity is on Pg 216 (#1,2,6-10,12, 14-17)

Please refer to the Section 6.1 NOTES in the grade 9 notes section on my Blog.

Friday February 5 - Hey everyone, today we reviewed last day's concepts and ideas. Furthermore, we looked at the strategies involved to DEVELOP THE EQUATION from a table of values.

Today's activity is last day's work on Pg 216 (#1,2,6-10,12,14-17), please complete this activity for Monday's math class.

I hope you all have a great weekend! 😀
