September 21 - September 25, 2020

Below is the Math agenda for the week of Monday September 21 - Friday September 25 for my Grade 8 & 9 classes:

Grade 8

Monday September 21 We are looking at calculating the unit rate, and applying the unit rate with application problems.

Today's assignment is on Pg 60 (#7-11)

Tuesday September 22 - Today we are using class time as a work-period to wrap up section 2.2.

Today's activity is on Pg 61 (#12-19)

Wednesday September 23 We are looking at what is proportional reasoning: A proportion is a relationship that says that two ratios or rates are equal. A proportion can be written as a fraction.

Today’s activity is on Pg 67 (#1-9).

Thursday September 24 - Today we looked at applying the concept of proportions with a real world problem.

Today's activity is on Pg 67 (#10 -17).

Friday September 25 - No school today as it's a non-instructional day. Have a nice weekend and review for the QUIZ on Monday (September 28). It will be on sections 2.1- 2.2. Ratios and Rates.

Grade 9

Monday September 21 - Hi guys, today we will be looking at what happens when we multiply powers with the same bases. We noticed that we add the exponents. Therefore, this becomes the first exponent law that we will learn about.

Today’s activity is on Pg 99 (#1-5)

Tuesday September 22 - Hi guys, today we learned the 2 exponent laws. The first is when you multiply powers with the SAME base you will add the exponents. The second exponent law is when dividing powers with the SAME base you will subtract the exponents.

Today’s activity is on Pg 105 (#1-8).

Wednesday September 23 - Hi everyone, today we learned how to raise a Power, Product and Quotient to an exponent. Simply put- the exponents get multiplied to one another to create a new power.

Today’s assignment is on Pg 106 (#9-14)

Thursday September 24 - Hi everyone, today we looked at in detail what happens when you raise a number to the exponent zero. We learned that any number (except for zero) raised to the exponent zero is equal to one . Moreover, we looked at three different ideas illustrating as to why this happens. For enrichment we also saw what happens when we have a negative exponent. The rest of the time we will be working on:

Today’s assignment is on Pg 106 (#15-26)

Friday September 25 - No school today as it's a non-instructional day. Have a nice weekend and review for the QUIZ on Tuesday (September 29). It will be on sections 3.1- 3.2. Powers, exponents, and the exponent laws.
